Layers of Physical Security

At Federal Protection, our security experts are passionate about helping banks avoid security breaches. We implement a multi-layer approach to ensure the physical security of financial institutions. After all, you can’t just lock your bank vault at the end of the day and hope for the best. Our years of experience have illustrated that multiple layers of physical security are necessary to prevent security breaches of all kinds. Put simply, you need to meet any possible security breach with resistance – be it a sophisticated interior security system or a firm outdoor perimeter.

Layers of Physical Security

Property Layer

When establishing layers of physical security, we start with the property surrounding the financial institution. Specifically, we’ll work to establish a secure perimeter from your property line to the exterior of your building. This will help you keep a close eye on anyone who accesses your financial institution from the street – be it a customer or a potential intruder. Our methods to secure your perimeter vary depending on the size, location, and needs of your bank. First, we’ll make sure you’re funneling visitors to specific, highly controlled entry points. That can be accomplished through strategic fencing, natural landscaping, and other means of entry control. Additionally, it’s essential to place security cameras around the perimeter of your property. Camera monitoring dissuades even the most seasoned criminals.

Exterior Layer

After securing your building perimeter, it’s important to ensure that the outer layer of your building is as sound as possible. That means securing all doors, windows, walls, and other potential points of entry. From bulletproof glass and after-hours depository safes to keypad-entry doors, the goal is to make it impossible for criminals to gain unauthorized access to your financial institution.

Interior Layer

To protect your financial assets, your employees, and the people visiting your financial institution, you must ensure that your building’s interior remains secure at all times. Think like a criminal when designing the interior of your bank. Consider the factors that may place your employees and customers at risk – for example, an open space, easy access to the tellers, no clear camera monitoring – and address those factors first. There are a variety of ways to keep the interior of your building safe and secure. For example, if your financial institution is located in a high-crime area, consider placing your employees behind bulletproof glass to increase their safety. Additionally, make sure to place cameras in prominent areas to dissuade criminals.
